Building Better Careers in Gambling

Better Change is creating gambling-specific apprenticeship pathways that help employers develop talent, strengthen organisational capability and give people the opportunity to build meaningful and rewarding careers in our industry.

Working with our expert learning partners, Credit Services Association and SCL Professional, we combine nationally recognised apprenticeship standards with practical learning shaped around the challenges and opportunities facing gambling businesses.

Our apprenticeship offer includes:

Level 3 Data Technician

Who is it for? Employees use customer, operational, compliance and safer gambling data to improve routine analysis, reporting and evidence. Suitable roles may sit in safer gambling, customer operations, management information, compliance or commercial teams as well as dedicated data functions.

Industry benefit: Better data capability can improve the quality of risk indicators, customer journey analysis, intervention evaluation and management reporting. Workplace projects should solve a live employer problem rather than reproduce generic classroom examples.

Career benefit: Learners build transferable data confidence and demonstrate that they can turn information into decisions. The programme can establish a route into analyst, insight and reporting roles.

Level 4 Data Analyst

Who is it for? Analysts in data, safer gambling, compliance, commercial insight and customer operations use advanced analysis to explain behaviour, identify emerging patterns and influence operational and strategic decisions. The specialist pathway should use real gambling datasets and live workplace challenges.

Industry benefit: Employers strengthen predictive analytics, customer risk profiling, segmentation, intervention evaluation and executive reporting. Applied projects could include vulnerability models, safer gambling performance dashboards and evidence-based recommendations to senior leaders.

Career benefit: Learners develop advanced statistical, modelling, visualisation and communication skills using tools such as SQL and Power BI. The programme supports progression into data analyst, insight, risk analytics and decision-support roles.

Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer

Who is it for? Compliance officers, safer gambling specialists, licensing colleagues and aspiring managers apply regulation and risk principles within real operator environments. CSA’s gambling pathway combines the recognised standard with sector context.

Industry benefit: Employers develop people who can exercise judgement, communicate regulatory requirements, manage risk and connect policy with day-to-day operations. Better Change can add practical operator and player protection context.

Career benefit: Learners gain a recognised Level 4 apprenticeship and evidence their ability through workplace practice and end-point assessment. This supports progression into management, assurance, risk and broader regulatory roles.

Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner

Who is it for? Learners can lead Positive Play activity, social impact work, responsible marketing reviews, colleague wellbeing initiatives, stakeholder engagement and sustainability projects. The programme should appeal beyond compliance teams.

Industry benefit: Operators build internal champions who can turn responsibility commitments into plans, measures and reporting. This helps distribute ownership across product, marketing, operations, HR and leadership.

Career benefit: Learners develop project, influence and impact measurement skills that support progression across ESG, sustainability, corporate affairs, responsible business and social impact roles.

Eligible apprenticeship training in England may be fully or partly funded through the apprenticeship funding system, subject to the employer’s circumstances and learner eligibility.
